OUR VALUES

Jai’s ten rules

We want Jai to last forever and help hundreds of thousands of dogs. To achieve this we’ve created a set of rules to live by. These are for us, but also others who will follow.

These also ensure donors get maximum value for their money and that we run the charity to the highest possible standards.

1. We have the lowest cost per dog in the world

This is the key metric we work to and is calculated by dividing our gross income by the number of dogs we help each year.

By ‘help’ we mean CNVR, rescue, rehoming, basic treatments and food aid, not education programmes or anything which can’t be attributed to a single dog. We also don’t double count – for example, if we spay and neuter and rescue a dog, that counts as one.

With a gross income of £858,000 in 2024 we helped 12,401 dogs, giving a cost per dog of £59*.

*We exclude capital costs.

2. We have high standards

Our cost per dog isn’t achieved at the expense of lower standards and we pride ourselves in having developed some of the best in our sector.

Clinical

In CNVR we use IV catheters, pulse oximeters, lidocaine, cefazolin antibiotics and pre sedation drugs.

In Rescue we have onsite diagnostic equipment, ensuring fast effective diagnosis and use gold-standard treatments whenever possible.

Across all areas of our work animal welfare remains the highest priority.

Cleanliness

We take pride in maintaining clean, welcoming environments – from our clinics and equipment to our uniforms and personal presentation. We believe that a tidy space and professional appearance reflect the care and excellence we bring to our work.

Personal

We hold ourselves to the highest standards of personal and professional behaviour, we value punctuality, respect and consideration for others.

3. We use business systems

As a sister organisation to Ministry of Sound we are data driven and draw on techniques not typically associated with the charity sector to drive impact and efficiency.

These include financial metrics, operating procedures and methods of managing and motivating our staff.

4. We believe in Hub and Spoke

This is the proprietary business model developed by us which combines CNVR and Rescue through central ‘hubs’ supporting local community ‘spokes’ and treats the greatest number of dogs at the lowest cost to the highest clinical standards.

We plan to expand our hub and spoke network across Thailand and believe it might have a global application.

5. We recognise areas beyond daily dog care as a key part of our mission

These include monitoring, evaluation and learning (impact assessment), human behaviour change, advocacy and education & community outreach, disciplines in which we constantly strive to improve our knowledge and delivery.

6. We have a culture of speed, openness and opportunity

We respond to challenges quickly, openly and honestly.

We welcome ideas from everyone and encourage open dialogue at all levels.

We work towards targets and provide regular, constructive feedback.

We invest in our people by offering training, mentoring, travel, and learning opportunities.

7. We are both self-reliant and collaborative

We do everything from advanced diagnostics to complex surgery in house, which minimises costs, maximises efficiencies, and enriches the experience we offer our staff, while also collaborating with like-minded partners and experts where it strengthens our mission.

We have written protocols in every area of our front-line and back-office operations, from dog catching and care of senior dogs to HR, Finance, and IT, which we constantly review and improve in line with the highest international standards.

8. We maintain a 9:1 ratio of front-line to back-office staff

This maximises the number of staff directly caring for dogs each day and ensures donor support goes where it makes the biggest difference.

9. We believe in rescue and return and rehoming in Thailand

Once nursed back to health dogs are happiest being returned to familiar surroundings. This also prevents overcrowding in our shelter and enables us to focus on our core DPM mission.

Rehoming dogs domestically saves cost and problems which can arise from international adoptions.

10. We are disciplined and will never lose our entrepreneurial spirit

Discipline involves maintaining our financial rigour, business model and core DPM mission and not becoming distracted by other ideas or opportunities in the future.

Founded by Ministry of Sound we are enterprising and will preserve this spirit as we grow.

We also prefer a positive message to dispiriting images and seek to attract supporters who share our values, particularly our application of business principles to the charity sector.
